MANAGING THE FINANCIAL YEAR-END (£25-199K)

This course is recommended for new Clerks with financial responsibilities who work for small-medium sized councils with budgets between £25,000 and £199,999. We aim to provide step-by-step help through the end of year finance process with lots of opportunity for questions in an informal setting. The tutor is an experienced Clerk with many years of successfully managing council budgets.

By the end of this course you will
Understand the importance of timings and how to make life easier for yourself by completing tasks throughout the year
Be clear about the specific roles/duties of the Responsible Financial Officer, Council Chairperson, Internal and External Auditors
Know what you need to do in terms of what to publish on your council's website and when
Understand the importance of the Annual Governance & Accountability Return (AGAR), plus know how to explain variances, prepare a year-end bank reconciliation, and know when to sign-off the AGAR
