An end, at long last, to the ‘Toilet tax’
The new Local Government Finance Bill enables District and Borough Councils (the Collecting Authorities) to grant full business rate relief on all owned or partially owned local authority public toilets. Currently a financial burden on the parish rate payer, the move it is said, will save £16 million a year in business rates for local councils. One wonders how many Clerks, over the years, have been caught short on this one! It’s a change long overdue.
